Mike is a founder and the managing member of Francis Investment Counsel LLC. He has been advising qualified retirement plan clients since 1988. He holds a B.A. degree in economics from Carleton College and a Juris Doctorate degree from Marquette University Law School. Mike has been a featured columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as the “401(k) Advisor” since 1995 and is a frequent public speaker on retirement plan governance and investment issues. In 2006, PLANSPONSOR Magazine named Mike one of the “Top 25 Retirement Plan Advisors” in the country. In 2018, PLANSPONSOR Magazine named Francis Investment Counsel “Retirement Plan Adviser of the Year” in the Large Team category. Mike is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA).

Cliff has over 28 years of investment industry experience and serves the Firm as investment consultant and partner. In this role he assists plan sponsors and their committees with plan design, investment manager searches, investment performance monitoring, and other ERISA compliance issues. Previously he was a Vice President at a national mutual fund company where he provided consulting services to professionals in the financial services industry serving both corporations and individual investors. Advice included 401(k) plan design, development of investment policy statements, and creation of model portfolios using modern portfolio theory. Cliff holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He obtained a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Illinois Wesleyan University.

Ed is the Firm’s CIO and serves as an Investment Consultant to institutional retirement plans. As CIO, Ed leads the Firm’s Investment Committee which develops strategic and tactical asset allocation as well as establishes the underwriting criteria for traditional and alternative investment strategies. He is also the main author of “Investor’s Outlook,” a quarterly publication of investment ideas developed in collaboration with the Firm’s other investment professionals. Ed assists plan sponsors and their committees by navigating matters such as plan design, investment manager selection, investment monitoring, and ERISA compliance. Ed graduated from Marquette University with a Masters of Business Administration in finance and Gustavus Adolphus College (cum laude) with a B. A. in History. Ed holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Dave co-leads Francis Investment Counsel’s Minnesota division located in the Twin Cities. He holds a B.S. degree in Human Resources Development and Insurance Risk Management from the University of Minnesota. He has over 15 years of retirement plan consulting experience working specifically with plan sponsors to limit fiduciary liability as well as promote financial wellness initiatives to plan participants. Dave is a member of multiple local and national associations and is actively involved in his community serving on multiple municipality Boards.

Kevin serves as the Firm’s plan design, administration, and operational consultant. He co-leads Francis Investment Counsel’s Minnesota division located in the Twin Cities and has over 20 years of retirement plan recordkeeping and consulting experience. Prior to joining Francis, Kevin was a partner and senior consultant for a large international consulting, actuarial, and employee benefits firm. He has his B.A. in Communications from Marquette University and is a credentialed member of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA). Outside of Francis, Kevin serves as president of the board of directors of Friends of FANA, MN, a nonprofit organization established to support the medical needs and placement needs of the children being cared for at the FANA orphanage in Bogotá, Colombia.

Kevin leads the Firm’s Capital Markets and Investment Manager research team. His team conducts due diligence on investment managers, evaluates opportunities in capital markets, and examines short-and-long-term economic trends. Kevin and his team rely on their internal research to issue recommendations on existing and prospective investment managers and to inform portfolio construction decisions. For institutional clients, his team also prepares asset allocation optimization studies. Kevin’s team holds extensive contacts in the investment management industry and performs regular on-site due diligence meetings to remain at the forefront of industry trends. Kevin graduated from Marquette University (magna cum laude) earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Jon serves as Vice President – Investment Consulting Services for Francis Investment Counsel, with coverage of both investment managers and global capital markets. Relying on both quantitative tools and in-depth qualitative due diligence Jon provides recommendations on existing and prospective investment managers and contributes to manager searches, asset allocation optimizations, and client portfolio management. Jon graduated from the Marquette University Applied Investment Management Program with honors earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Joe leads the Firm’s business development efforts. He has over 30 years of progressive financial management experience. Joe previously served as Chief Financial Officer of a Wisconsin printing operation which allows him to bring a valuable plan sponsor perspective to his business development efforts. A Certified Public Accountant since 1985, Joe is currently a member of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a contributing writer for the Wisconsin CPA monthly journal. He is an active member of Metro Milwaukee Society for Human Resource Management (MMSHRM) and served on the Board of Directors of Wisconsin Retirement Plan Professionals, Ltd. (WRPPL). Joe is a graduate of Marquette University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
Research Analyst
Macy serves as Research Analyst for the Investment Consulting team at Francis Investment Counsel with responsibilities in investment manager due diligence, capital market research, and client reporting support. She holds a B.S. in Finance and Operations & Supply Chain Management from Marquette University. When outside of the office, Macy can typically be found outdoors with her horses, enjoying trail rides with friends.

Sue oversees the Firm’s finance and administrative operations. She is also responsible for human resources management. She has served in the financial services industry for over thirty-five years including several as a Branch Operations Manager for a national brokerage firm. She has extensive experience in all aspects of qualified retirement plan operations and serves as a primary liaison between the Firm and its service partners, including third-party administrators and trust companies. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

Kelli leads the Firm’s MoneyAdvice@Work® Team, which focuses on employee education and personal financial wellness services. She brings over 30 years of financial services experience to the team including over 26 years with the Francis team. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration – Marketing from Michigan State University and a Master of Education from Carroll University specializing in Adult Education. She is responsible for all aspects of employee education, including curriculum development, design of education programs, and delivery of face-to-face financial wellness services. She has extensive experience in training and public speaking engagements and has authored research on the impact of workplace financial education programs on 401(k) participant rates of return. She holds a a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation.

Tim serves as a Money Advisor with the MoneyAdvice@Work® Team and is responsible for providing education and individual advisory services. He graduated from the Moody Bible Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree. After serving as an aircraft mechanic and flight instructor, and then a business operations analyst at a national bank, Tim joined Francis Investment Counsel, returned to school, and obtained his a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation.

Matthew serves as a Money Advisor and e-Learning Program Manager with the MoneyAdvice@Work® Team. His primary responsibilities include working with corporate plan sponsors and local area site managers to create and deliver engaging adult financial education materials and events, provide holistic financial planning and coaching services, and manage the Firm’s distance learning and remote applications technologies program and relationships nationwide. He is a published member of the Financial Therapy Association (FTA), is a contributing member of the National Financial Educators Council-Personal Finance Speakers Association, and is the Firm liaison to Secure Futures; providing financial education and coaching to area at risk high school students. Matthew is a Veteran of the historic Wisconsin Army National Guard 32nd “Red Arrow” Brigade and a lifelong academic. His study of social economics and family financial behavior has earned him several certificates, designations, and degrees including a Masters Degree in Family Financial Planning and Counseling. These, along with his vast and diverse experience, provide him a unique insight into the psychological aspects of money relationships.

Prior to joining Francis Investment Counsel, Jay spent 7 years providing financial education and counseling to members of the United States military. He holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University (Magna Cum Laude graduate) and a Masters of Business Administration with a finance focus from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. Jay is a proud Navy veteran.

Liz serves plan participants as an experienced bilingual educator. After studying Communications and Spanish at Seton Hall University, she moved to Costa Rica where she began a teaching career. Liz has taught in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Turkey, and Ghana. Liz is passionate about helping others invest and manage their finances. She is an experienced educator with multicultural experiences to connect participants to the often-confusing world of personal finance. Liz resides in Waukesha with her husband and two daughters.

Eric joined Francis Investment Counsel to serve the community where he was raised. A Rhinelander native, Eric retired after 21 years in the U.S. Air Force living in South Korea, Japan, Guam, Italy and Alaska with multiple deployments to the Middle East before starting a second career as a Private Wealth Consultant in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, (Magna Cum Laude), a master’s in Business Administration from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and obtained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation. Eric lives in Kronenwetter, Wisconsin, with his wife and two children.

Peter resides in Waukesha, Wisconsin, with his wife and sons.

Sally serves as the Education Services Coordinator for Francis Investment Counsel’s MoneyAdvice@Work® Team. She is responsible for coordinating workplace education and advisory services. She also serves as the primary contact point for the design and preparation of client education campaigns and materials. Sally graduated Summa Cum Laude from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin, with a Bachelor of Science degree. Prior to joining Francis Investment Counsel Sally served a national appraisal firm in their financial valuation practice. Sally resides in Waukesha, Wisconsin, with her family.
